User Access¶
How users are granted access to Timextender, and where that access is managed.
Where access is managed depends on your deployment¶
| Deployment | Users | Groups / roles |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud | Managed in TDP (since 26.1) | Managed in TDP as roles (since 26.2) |
| On-premise | Managed in the ODQ Desktop client | Managed in the ODQ Desktop client using Active Directory groups |
Two group features, deliberately distinct
Active Directory groups are on-premise only, in the desktop client, backed by Windows Server AD. Entra groups are cloud only, in TDP, backed by Azure AD. They are separate features and remain so.
Recommended approach¶
Assign privileges to roles, not to individual users
From 26.2 onward, assign privileges to roles and add users to those roles rather than granting privileges per user. Roles are easier to maintain, scale to many users, and can be backed by Entra group membership.
